1. FINALLY SOME FUCKING HONESTY
Friends and family will nod, saying everything you do is awesome. They won't want to offend. Other producers either don't have the time for your music, or will take pleasure in putting you down for no reason. A mentor is there to aid your growth as an artist nothing more, nothing less. No bias. No agenda. Just help.

2. CONNECTIONS
A mentor will have amassed a lifetime of industry contacts which could prove useful once you're good enough to start swimming with the big fish.

3. A ROUTE TO MARKET
I don't know about other mentors, but this mentor is constantly asked for tracks (because there is so much dross out there). Rise about the bile with a bit of mentoring from me, and we'll get you past the velvet rope (for a fee).

4. IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU
This is not about learning technical skills from shitty YouTube tutorials. A mentor is there to personally see if you're alright and see how things are going with your music. Helping you to explore your artistic ideas. And it just feels nice and cosy to be under someone's wing. That's what a mentor does.

5. NO ONE ELSE CARES
You might live in the middle of nowhere where it is impossible to meet any other producers. The internet is awash with people just like you, all trying to learn and promote their musical 'brand'. So it's impossible to find someone who, in all honesty, actually gives a shit. Mentors are paid to do just that.

6. CHEAP INVESTMENT
If everyone is honest with themself, they've probably spent hundreds or even thousands of dollars over the years on plugins and gear that never improved the final result. Compare the price of a mentor to that plugin you fancy purchasing next. Which do you thnk will help you improve the most?

7. ONE UPMANSHIP IS GREAT!
You'll have something that all your competition doesn't. And you can mention it at parties. Or wave it in other people's faces: you have very own mentor, like he's your butler or your very own personal Yoda.

8. HELPS YOU BUILD CONFIDENCE AS A PRODUCER
A mentor offers kind words of encouragement and a gentle slap of the wrist when you're going off track. Rather than someone screaming in your face 'YOUR TRACK SUCKS.' And we all know, the person usually telling you that you suck, is yourself. A mentor will help you break this habit.

9. THE PERFECT CRUTCH
A mentor is someone who you can share your frustrutions with, someone who will gauge your progress with clarity, and provide a non-judgmental environment to explore whatever crazy music you want to make. It provide you with a safe space to be creative in.

10. TRIED AND TESTED
It's been thirty years of blood, sweat, mistakes, hangovers, missed planes, missed deadlines, victories, defeats, failures, embarassments, and tears ... and the occassional moments of utter glory. And I'm still standing, so I must have learnt a thing or two, along the way that I can pass on to you ... for money.
